Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law obligating telecom operators to cut communications upon the Federal Security Service’s (FSB) request. The law outlines that such disconnections will be dictated by presidential regulations, as reported by state news agency Tass.

According to Anadolu Agency, the newly signed legislation ensures that communication operators will not face liability for network outages if these occur due to an FSB requirement. This development follows the law’s approval by the State Duma in its third and final reading earlier this week.

The primary objective of this measure is to bolster security in regions under the FSB’s jurisdiction and to enhance counter-terrorism efforts. This intent was detailed in the explanatory note accompanying the legislation.
