Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin may hold a trilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in November, a Kremlin aide said Tuesday. Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov revealed that discussions took place between Putin and Xi during talks in Bishkek on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ushakov noted that Xi Jinping mentioned Donald Trump's attendance at the summit, while Vladimir Putin would likely be present as an invitee. Ushakov expressed that if plans proceed accordingly, a meeting between the three leaders could be organized, or at the very least, a collective meeting would be essential.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting for 2026 is scheduled to be held in Shenzhen, China, on November 18-19. This summit presents a significant opportunity for dialogue among the three influential leaders.

In a separate development, Ushakov also mentioned a planned meeting with Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi, the archbishop of Bologna, at the end of September. The discussions will focus on humanitarian issues related to the Ukraine war, with an acknowledgment of the political dimensions involved. Ushakov emphasized the Vatican's role in negotiating humanitarian matters through its own channels.
