Doha: Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reiterated their support for Kuwait's sovereignty over its maritime territories following Iraq's submission of new maritime coordinates and an updated map to the United Nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Qatar's Foreign Ministry expressed its full solidarity with Kuwait, emphasizing its concern over the maritime coordinates and map submitted by Iraq, which allegedly infringe upon Kuwait's maritime sovereignty. The statement, released on the US social media platform X, highlighted that the coordinates affect areas such as Fasht Al-Qaid and Fasht Al-Aij, which are claimed by Kuwait.

Similarly, the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs voiced its support for Kuwait, emphasizing the importance of addressing Iraq's submission in accordance with international law. The ministry called for a resolution in line with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982 (UNCLOS) and existing bilateral agreements. The UAE also urged Iraq to consider the historical and fraternal ties between the nations.

Kuwait had summoned Iraq's charg© d'affaires to protest the submission to the UN, viewing it as a violation of its sovereignty. The Kuwait Foreign Ministry stated that the submission included claims over maritime areas and features that are not disputed and are under Kuwait's full sovereignty, specifically mentioning Fasht Al-Qaid and Fasht Al-Aij.
