Doha: Qatar on Wednesday condemned an Israeli attack on gas facilities linked to Iran's South Pars field, calling it a 'dangerous and irresponsible step' amid escalating regional tensions. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari expressed concerns about the potential consequences of targeting energy infrastructure, especially those tied to the South Pars field, which extends into Qatar's North Field.
According to Anadolu Agency, Al-Ansari stated on the US social media platform X that the attack poses a threat to global energy security and the environment. He emphasized Qatar's opposition to targeting vital facilities and urged all involved parties to exercise restraint, adhere to international law, and work towards de-escalation to maintain regional security and stability.
His comments followed reports by Iranian media of a US-Israeli airstrike on gas storage tanks at Iran's South Pars field in Asaluyeh, leading to halted production at two refineries with a combined capacity of about 100 million cubic meters per day. The ongoing joint offensive by the US and Israel against Iran has resulted in significant casualties and retaliatory actions, disrupting global markets and aviation.
