Doha: Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and US President Donald Trump discussed progress in understandings reached between Washington and Tehran, the Emiri Diwan announced in a statement. The discussion took place during a phone call focusing on bilateral ties and regional and international developments, particularly efforts to reduce regional tensions.

According to Anadolu Agency, the statement noted that the two leaders "reviewed the results of consultations and understandings" reached between the US and Iran, indicating progress on issues under discussion within the negotiating track. Sheikh Tamim expressed support for resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means, reaffirming Qatar's commitment to initiatives aimed at enhancing regional and international security and stability.

The Qatari emir thanked Trump for his efforts in supporting de-escalation initiatives. Trump, in turn, stated that the understandings had received approval from all relevant parties, with Qatar's participation and support, while efforts continue to complete final procedures for signing the agreement. He announced on social media that planned strikes against Iran had been canceled and that discussions and final points had been approved by involved parties, including several countries such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, and others.

US forces carried out strikes against multiple targets in Iran following the downing of a helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported strikes on major US military targets in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. The escalation has heightened tensions following US strikes on Iran and Tehran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic.
