Tehran:A Qatari delegation has arrived in Tehran to engage in discussions with senior Iranian officials, marking a renewed effort to revive stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States, as reported by Iranian state media.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the delegation is led by a senior adviser to Qatar's prime minister and foreign minister. The focus of the talks will include bilateral relations and regional developments, as reported by Iran's IRNA news agency.
Al Jazeera had previously reported that the Qatari mediators returned to Tehran with the aim of negotiating an agreement to end the ongoing US-Iran conflict, in coordination with Washington. This diplomatic push follows a report by The Wall Street Journal, which stated that US Vice President JD Vance sent a letter to Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei to attempt to restart the stalled negotiations. However, Tehran has yet to respond, according to a senior Iranian official cited by the semi-official Fars News Agency.
The tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, leading to retaliatory attacks by Tehran on Israeli and US positions across several Arab countries. Previously, Washington and Tehran signed a framework agreement in June and initiated negotiations, which later collapsed due to disagreements over the freedom and security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for global energy supplies and trade.
