Beirut: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) expressed outrage Wednesday over the deadly effect of intensified military operations across Lebanon, warning of widespread civilian casualties and destruction.

According to Anadolu Agency, the ICRC released a statement highlighting the devastating impact of military strikes in densely populated areas across Lebanon, including the capital, Beirut. Agnes Dhur, the ICRC head of delegation in Lebanon, emphasized the chaos and fear gripping the nation as people, once hopeful for a ceasefire, are now caught in a desperate search for safety and missing loved ones.

The ICRC reported that heavy explosive weapons were deployed without effective warnings, resulting in over one hundred fatalities and hundreds more injuries. The organization called on all involved parties to prioritize the protection of civilians and civilian structures during military operations, underscoring the pressing need for humanitarian relief following weeks of ongoing hostilities.

The statement further stressed that any lasting agreement in the region must prioritize the safety, protection, and dignity of Lebanese civilians. This call to action follows a recent ceasefire agreement brokered between the US and Iran late Tuesday, which the ICRC hopes will contribute to stabilizing the situation in Lebanon.
