Their collaboration began with the release of the album "Suleiman the Magnificent," which was created for a documentary and exhibition about Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. This format has since been a constant in their subsequent wo rks, garnering both interest and success. Tekbilek highlighted the depth of instrumental music, which he recognized from a young age. He noted that instrumental music's universality allows listeners to connect on a personal level, as they can imagine their own words to the melodies. He also shared his passion for Turkish music, describing it as the richest in the world due to its emergence from a region that has hosted numerous civilizations. He emphasized the importance of presenting this cultural heritage to the world with a modern understanding. He credited Orhan Gencebay and Brian Keane as significant influences in his artistic journey. Gencebay mentored him when he first moved to Istanbul, while Keane has been a long-standing collaborator. Tekbilek also acknowledged the contributions of other musicians and jazz masters, such as Aka Gunduz Kutbay, Burhan Tonguc, and Ismet Siral. Looking forward to his upcoming performances, Tekbilek expressed his excitement about returning to perform in Turkey after a long hiatus. He plans to present beloved pieces from his albums and new works, with the addition of a string quartet and acoustic bass for the first time in Turkey, providing a deeper dimension to the music. Following the concerts, Tekbilek anticipates engaging with his audience, where he will sign albums and his newly released biography book, "Nefes/Breath," available in both Turkish and English. The book includes artistic photographs and narrates his life story. After residing in the US for 45 years, Tekbilek has recently returned to his hometown of Adana, where he continues his artistic endeavors. He is committed to sharing his experiences with Turkey's younger generation, broadening the reach of his artistic legacy.
