Reopening of Strait of Hormuz ‘Best News’ After Peace Deal: Philippine President

Manila: Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday described the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as the "best news" following a long-awaited peace deal between the United States and Iran to end their war. Speaking during a joint press stakeout with visiting German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Manila, he welcomed the agreement between Washington and Tehran and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, describing the development as "the best news we could hope for, if it is successfully finalized and implemented," according to a statement from Marcos' office.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Marcos expressed hope and prayers for the finalization of the peace agreement, emphasizing the desire for a lasting peace. He highlighted the significance of the ceasefire agreement between the two nations and its potential impact on global stability.

Marcos also emphasized the importance of the Philippines' bilateral relations with Germany during his meeting with President Steinmeier. He pointed out the value of continued cooperation in key areas that contribute to national development and mutual growth.

In his remarks, President Steinmeier revealed plans for hundreds of German companies to invest in the Philippines, noting the presence of approximately 30,000 Filipinos currently residing in Germany. He also extended sympathies to the Filipinos affected by the recent powerful earthquake in Mindanao.
