Berlin: Germany's largest defense firm Rheinmetall on Monday announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Polish state-owned defense group Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa SA (PGZ) on strategic cooperation in the field of military support vehicles.

According to Anadolu Agency, the deal encompasses the production of armored recovery vehicles, mine-clearing vehicles, and armored vehicle-launched bridges. As part of the agreement, the companies will establish a joint venture company. Rheinmetall emphasized its significant presence in Poland through Rheinmetall Polska Sp.z o.o. and highlighted its role as a leading supplier of armored tracked and wheeled vehicles.

Rheinmetall's statement noted the importance of the agreement in light of current threats from the East, emphasizing the contribution of PGZ and Rheinmetall in building a unified European defense potential. This cooperation marks the German company's first strategic partnership with a Polish defense firm.

Bjorn Bernhard, Rheinmetall's managing director of Vehicle Systems Europe division, stated that the MoU opens opportunities for enhancing Poland's manufacturing capabilities and strengthening European defense. PGZ CEO Adam Leszkiewicz echoed this sentiment, expressing optimism about expanding collaboration to offer solutions to external markets.
