Cernavoda: The Romanian army on Monday executed a strategic operation to redirect water from the Danube River toward the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant by blasting a rock formation. The action, reported by broadcaster Digi24, involved using 180 kilograms of explosives to dislodge the Parjoaia rock in an underwater demolition effort.

According to Anadolu Agency, Acting Defense Minister Radu Miruta deemed the intervention successful. He emphasized that the dislodging of the rock was crucial not only for the power plant but also for future navigation and dredging activities along the Old Danube branch. Miruta highlighted that the operation was essential for easing dredging processes in the future, which would benefit navigation.

Miruta elaborated on the next steps following the demolition, noting that two barges had been brought to the site to load as much of the dislodged rock as possible. He mentioned that a heavy-duty crane would be employed to extract and clear the area of the rock debris, ensuring a more efficient flow of water toward the nuclear facility.
