Romania: Romanian football coach Mircea Lucescu has died at age 80, the Romanian Football Federation announced on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the federation expressed deep regret over the loss of Lucescu, describing him as an enduring legend in Romanian football. The statement highlighted his role not only as a brilliant tactician but also as a mentor and visionary who elevated Romanian football on the global stage.

Lucescu's legacy is profound, both as a player and a coach. He was celebrated for his intelligence and skill on the field, notably with Dinamo Bucurest, where he secured seven league titles and captained Romania in the 1970 FIFA World Cup against iconic players such as Pele and Bobby Moore. His coaching career further solidified his impact, as he introduced modern football strategies in Romania and achieved significant success with the national team and clubs like Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Shakhtar Donetsk.

In 2024, Lucescu made a notable return to the Romanian national team, leading them to a successful UEFA Nations League campaign.
