Ankara: Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu emphasized the significance of Trkiye's full membership in the European Union (EU) for the security of the Black Sea region during a joint news conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The meeting, held at the Turkish Foreign Ministry, underscored Romania's commitment to strengthening ties with Trkiye and supporting its EU candidacy.
According to Anadolu Agency, Toiu pointed out Romania's role in hosting the NATO Industry Forum and highlighted the active dialogue between Bucharest and Ankara. She expressed a desire to deepen the strategic partnership between the two nations and expand their cooperation beyond NATO frameworks, particularly through trilateral cooperation with Bulgaria.
Toiu announced the intention to host the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) in Bucharest next year, marking the 15th anniversary of the Trkiye-Romania strategic partnership. She also extended an invitation from Romanian President Nicusor Dan to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the upcoming meeting.
Trkiye was described by Toiu as Romania's most crucial partner outside the EU, with a focus on boosting cooperation through investments. She highlighted Romania's favorable conditions for foreign investments, especially in the defense sector, and discussed efforts to expand trade between the two countries.
Addressing the situation in Gaza, Toiu acknowledged discussions with the US, Qatar, and Egypt, and thanked Trkiye for its support in securing the release of hostages. She reiterated Romania's commitment to providing humanitarian aid and seeking a sustainable peace.
Toiu praised Trkiye's role in Black Sea security and noted ongoing regional efforts to strengthen economic ties. She highlighted the discussions at the NATO Industry Forum aimed at enhancing security and fostering economic cooperation in the region.
Finally, Toiu announced an agreement between Trkiye and Romania on the joint production of armored vehicles, emphasizing its importance for suppliers and manufacturers and its potential as a model for other nations.
