Romanian President Appoints Ilie Bolojan as Prime Minister

Bucharest: Romanian President Nicusor Dan appointed senior liberal politician Ilie Bolojan to the premiership, marking a significant step towards forming a pro-Western reform government. According to Anadolu Agency, President Dan expressed his gratitude to Bolojan and the coalition of liberal parties, including the Social Democrat Party (PSD), National Liberal Party (PNL), Save Romania Union (USR), and Hungarians' Union (UDMR), which are collaborating to establish a strong governing body. President Dan emphasized the importance of a solid majority to address the pressing challenges Romania is currently facing. The president highlighted the urgent need for economic recovery, underscoring that a stable foundation is essential for achieving this goal. He stressed that the responsibility for this recovery rests with the government and the supporting coalition. Ilie Bolojan, upon his nomination, expressed his commitment to expediting the coalition talks. He outlined his primary objectives: to stabilize the cou ntry's finances, promote governance that fosters development, and ensure respect for Romanian citizens through the government's actions. Bolojan, the 56-year-old leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), has previously served as head of the Romanian Senate and acted as interim president earlier this year from February to May.
