Bushehr: The head of Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom announced that 128 Russian personnel are currently stationed at Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.

According to Anadolu Agency, Alexey Likhachev, speaking to the Vesti news service, mentioned that plans are underway for another wave of evacuations. He noted a “certain sense of relief” following a recent ceasefire between the US and Iran, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding its potential outcomes, which could range from a breakdown to a diplomatic agreement as indicated by US President Donald Trump.

Likhachev emphasized that while Bushehr remains a technological priority, safeguarding the lives and health of personnel is of utmost importance. He assured that Russia would continue to closely monitor developments in the Middle East. Furthermore, Likhachev expressed gratitude towards the Iranian authorities for their cooperation in organizing evacuations, crediting the Russian Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the successful and incident-free evacuation of nearly 500 individuals.

Over the weekend, he confirmed that the majority of Russian workers at the plant had been evacuated, with additional evacuations planned. The Russian Embassy in Armenia reported that 175 more employees had left for Moscow on Tuesday.

In remarks to Russian media, including RIA, Likhachev mentioned that Iran’s nuclear industry leadership has requested Rosatom to resume construction of new units at the Bushehr plant. Although current circumstances do not permit this, he expressed optimism about the gesture. Likhachev also stated that Russia is open to solutions regarding Iran’s enriched uranium, proposing options such as taking the uranium, reducing its enrichment, and compensating Iran with natural uranium, enriched uranium, or other supplies of interest. He emphasized Rosatom’s willingness to engage in both bilateral and trilateral cooperation to address this issue.
