Ankara:A commander from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan has defected with 300 officers, soldiers, and 30 combat vehicles.
According to Anadolu Agency, Lt. Col. Mohammed Azraq al-Fanjari, who led the RSF's Special Tasks Group, publicly announced his defection through a video statement shared across Sudanese media.
Al-Fanjari expressed his decision to abandon his military duties with the RSF after deep reflection on the consequences of the ongoing conflict in Sudan. He emphasized his commitment to peace, denouncing any actions that have harmed civilians or their property. He apologized to Sudanese families affected by the conflict, which began in April 2023, and urged other RSF members to reconsider their involvement.
He called on his former colleagues to join the Sudanese Armed Forces to prevent further violence, describing the conflict as a futile war. There has yet to be a response from the RSF regarding Al-Fanjari's announcement.
