Moscow: Russia and Afghanistan have inked an agreement on military-technical cooperation during the International Security Forum in the Moscow region. This development marks an expansion of Moscow's ties with the Taliban-led authorities in Kabul.
According to Anadolu Agency, the agreement was signed on Wednesday evening by Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu and Afghan Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob. Yaqoob emphasized the importance of Russia's interaction, highlighting the long-standing historical relations between Afghanistan and Russia and expressing a desire to continue expanding bilateral relations.
Shoigu addressed the issue of Afghan assets blocked by Western countries, advocating for their release. He urged these countries to recognize their responsibility for their 20-year presence in Afghanistan and to contribute to the nation's post-conflict reconstruction.
The agreement is part of a broader context of increasing engagement between Moscow and the Taliban authorities. Earlier this month, Shoigu, at a Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, mentioned that Russia had initiated dialogue with the Taliban and was working on developing a comprehensive partnership with the group.
