Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, state news agency TASS reported. The signing ceremony took place at the Kremlin following talks between the two leaders.

According to Anadolu Agency, the agreement formalizes Moscow and Tehran's status as strategic partners and sets a legal framework for long-term cooperation across multiple sectors. These sectors include defense, counterterrorism, energy, finance, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology.

President Putin emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating at a joint press briefing, "The achievements and connections between our two countries are large-scale and mutually beneficial." He expressed satisfaction with the results of the negotiations and confidence that the agreements would strengthen Russian-Iranian relations further.

Additionally, Putin announced the initiation of a natural gas pipeline project to Iran. Initially, Russia plans to deliver up to 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, with the potential to increase supplies to 55 billion cubic meters in the future. The project signifies a deepening energy partnership between the two nations.

The agreement underscores Russia's priority to strengthen friendly and good-neighborly relations with Iran. Both leaders anticipate that this partnership will enhance collaboration and bolster ties across the agreed-upon sectors, marking a new chapter in Russian-Iranian relations.
