Istanbul: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has announced that upcoming negotiations in Istanbul will focus on sustainable settlement and territorial issues. The talks, set for Thursday, will address ground realities and involve discussions on new territories integrated into Russia amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ryabkov expressed Russia's willingness to engage in responsible negotiations but voiced skepticism about the other party's ability to reach an agreement. After meeting with Turkish Ambassador Tanju Bilgic in Moscow, Ryabkov emphasized the necessity of recognizing the realities on the ground, particularly concerning the recent territorial changes.

Ryabkov highlighted Kyiv's inability to negotiate as a significant impediment in the negotiation process. He noted the importance of acknowledging the current situation in Ukraine, which includes the integration of new territories into Russia.

The choice of Istanbul as the venue for these discussions stems from Russia's active dialogue with Turkey. Ryabkov pointed out this intensive diplomatic relationship as a reason for selecting Turkey as the host for the negotiations.

This initiative for talks in Istanbul was proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a press conference in Moscow. Subsequently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed Turkey's readiness to facilitate the meeting during a phone call with Putin, setting the stage for Thursday's discussions.
