Moscow: Falling drone debris injured one person and sparked a fire at an oil refinery in Russia's southern Krasnodar region following what local authorities described as a Ukrainian attack. Regional authorities reported on Telegram that the debris also caused damage to houses in the villages of Afipsky, Smolenskaya, and Kovalenko. Additionally, a building at a railway crossing sustained damage, according to the authorities.
According to Anadolu Agency, Russia's Defense Ministry stated on Telegram that its air defenses intercepted and destroyed 288 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions, including annexed Crimea, as well as the Azov and Black seas. The ministry further reported that it struck military targets in Ukraine's capital Kyiv and port infrastructure in the southwestern Odesa region. Fuel storage facilities used by Ukrainian forces were reportedly hit in the port of Yuzhny.
On a separate note, the Ukrainian General Staff announced that its forces had successfully shot down seven missiles and 108 drones in the north, south, east, and center of the country. Ukraine's drone campaign targeting Russian energy infrastructure has significantly disrupted facilities representing 81% of Russia's refining capacity. This disruption has contributed to driving refinery throughput to its lowest level in 21 years, as per a report by the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. Ukrainian drones have reportedly targeted 24 of Russia's 34 refineries in 2026, with around one-third of Russia's refining capacity estimated to be offline by mid-June, the report indicated.
The intensified attacks on Russian oil refineries have led Moscow to impose periodic restrictions aimed at stabilizing the domestic fuel market. As of early July, more than 40 Russian regions have experienced fuel shortages, prompting authorities to implement sales limits. Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that Ukrainian strikes on Russia's energy infrastructure had contributed to the fuel shortages but emphasized that the situation remained under control.
