Moscow: Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Thursday the detention of a former security guard from the British Embassy in Moscow. The individual, a Russian citizen born in 1981, is suspected of committing 'high treason' by allegedly gathering information for Ukraine's Security Service (SBU).

According to Anadolu Agency, the FSB detailed in a statement that the arrest occurred during 'counterintelligence operations.' A criminal case has been initiated against the suspect, with accusations centered around the collection of sensitive information regarding personnel from the British diplomatic mission. This included personal identification details, addresses, and information about vehicles.

The FSB claims that the gathered information was intended for use by Ukraine to orchestrate 'acts of sabotage and terrorism' against British diplomats. The aim was allegedly to provoke the UK into a direct armed conflict with Russia, secure additional military supplies for Kyiv, and intensify sanctions against Moscow.

The FSB emphasized its commitment to countering foreign intelligence activities using all available methods. Meanwhile, Russian state news agency Tass reported that the UK Foreign Office is aware of the detention, with efforts underway to ascertain the facts.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted that potential provocations by Ukraine remain a significant concern for Russia's intelligence agencies. As of now, Ukrainian authorities have yet to comment on the FSB's allegations.
