Moscow: Russia on Tuesday imposed entry bans on 103 Canadian citizens, including senators, members of parliament, and government officials, in response to what Moscow described as anti-Russian sanctions imposed by Ottawa. In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused members of Canada's parliament of supporting policies aimed at undermining Russia's constitutional order and foreign policy, as well as backing efforts to confiscate Russian state assets.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed that while Russia traditionally respects the Canadian people, it rejects the hostile approach of the current Canadian political elite. The ministry accused this elite of denying Russia's rights and interests, which has led to the systematic destruction of bilateral relations between the two countries. Moscow stated it would continue to respond to what it sees as Ottawa's provocative actions, including Canadian support for Ukraine and alleged interference in Russia's internal affairs.

The entry ban list includes members of the Canadian Senate, the House of Commons, secretaries of state, parliamentary secretaries, and other officials. This move comes after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced at the G7 Summit in France that Ottawa had imposed 162 sanctions targeting Russia's war machine. These sanctions include individuals, entities, and vessels, which the Canadian government describes as assets of the Russian war machine.

The sanctions are part of Canada's efforts to increase pressure on Russia to negotiate a peace deal and support Ukraine, as stated on the prime minister's website.
