Russia Reports Serviceman Fatality in St. Petersburg Car Fire

St. petersburg: Russia announced that a serviceman was killed and his wife injured in a car fire in St. Petersburg's Pushkinsky district.

According to Anadolu Agency, a criminal investigation has been initiated into the incident, as confirmed by the Investigative Committee on Telegram. The committee identified the deceased as a military serviceman, with his wife currently receiving medical treatment.

Investigators and forensic experts, along with operational services, are actively examining the scene. Russian state news agency Tass reported that specialists are using metal detectors to search the surrounding area.

The local Fontanka newspaper reported that the deceased was a lieutenant colonel from a Russian air defense unit and suggested that the incident involved a vehicle explosion. However, authorities have not officially confirmed this information.

Amid the ongoing Ukraine war, Moscow has accused Kyiv of attempting assassinations on several top Russian military officials. While Kyiv has taken responsibility for some attacks, it has denied involvement in others. Ukraine has not commented on the current incident.
