Moscow: Russia is currently reviewing a nominee proposed by the Taliban interim administration in Afghanistan to serve as ambassador in Moscow, according to Russia's presidential envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov.

According to Anadolu Agency, speaking at the 16th Kazan Forum, Kabulov indicated that the necessary procedures are underway within Russian institutions to assess the diplomat's credentials. He expressed hope that once the process is complete, an agreement will be signed. "This nominee is currently undergoing the necessary approval procedures within Russian institutions. I hope that once the process is complete, an agreement will be signed," Kabulov was cited by TOLO News as telling reporters.

In addition to discussing the envoy's credentials, Kabulov addressed claims regarding Russia's intentions towards the Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan. He firmly rejected remarks made by US President Donald Trump, who accused Moscow of attempting to gain control of the former American military hub. Kabulov stated, "Never, not now or at any other time, has such a plan existed. To control a base, you must first possess it; the Americans have already lost it."

Last month, Russia's Supreme Court made a significant decision by suspending the ban on the activities of the Taliban. The group was included in Russia's list of banned terrorist organizations in 2003, marking a notable shift in the diplomatic landscape between the two nations.
