Moscow: US special envoy Steve Witkoff announced on Wednesday that a full ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine could be reached within weeks.

According to Anadolu Agency, Witkoff emphasized the progress being made toward a deal, indicating that easing anti-Russian sanctions would follow a ceasefire agreement. He also confirmed that upcoming meetings on Ukraine are scheduled in Saudi Arabia on Monday and Tuesday.

Witkoff characterized the conversation between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin as "epic and outcome-oriented," highlighting the advancements toward resolving the conflict. He mentioned that a meeting between the two leaders is "likely to happen" soon. On Tuesday, Trump and Putin discussed normalizing bilateral ties, settling the Ukraine conflict, and the broader situation in the Middle East. Trump described their conversation, which lasted over two hours, as "very good and productive."

Reports of Russian attacks on Ukrainian targets surfaced late Tuesday. However, Witkoff noted that within 10 minutes of the call, Putin ordered his forces not to attack any Ukrainian energy infrastructure. "Any attacks that happened last night would have happened before that order was given," Witkoff suggested, expressing his belief that President Putin is acting in good faith.

Additionally, Witkoff addressed the broader US-Russia relations, stating that the relationship is "critical" to the US due to its impact on broader geopolitical issues, including China, Iran, and the Middle East. He concluded by stating that Trump and Putin coming together "is enormously beneficial for the world at large."
