Russia, Ukraine Exchange Overnight Strikes Resulting in Casualties

Ankara: Russia and Ukraine accused each other Monday of launching overnight attacks that killed at least six people and injured 22 others.

According to Anadolu Agency, in Russia, three people were killed and five others were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow region, as reported by Governor Andrey Vorobyov on the Russian social media platform Max. The Moscow region was targeted by more than 350 Ukrainian drones overnight, with most intercepted before reaching the capital, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated on Telegram.

Additionally, one person was killed and two others were injured in Ukrainian attacks on Russia's Belgorod region, according to the regional operational headquarters via Telegram. In the village of Vyazniki in the Stavropol region, a drone strike on an industrial zone sparked a fire, Governor Vladimir Vladimirov reported on Telegram. Earlier reports on Telegram channels indicated a fire at an oil depot near the railway line in Vyazniki.

Russia's Defense Ministry announced on Telegram that its forces intercepted and destroyed 342 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory, annexed Crimea, and the Azov and Black seas. The ministry also mentioned that Russian forces carried out strikes damaging port infrastructure in Chornomorsk, Odesa region.

In Ukraine, four people were injured when a Russian strike hit parked buses in the Odesa region, local authorities reported. Russian attacks resulted in two deaths and 11 injuries, alongside damage to residential buildings in the Zaporizhzhia region, Governor Ivan Fedorov stated on Telegram. Ukraine's General Staff noted on Telegram that its air defense systems shot down 123 Russian drones across the north, south, and east of the country.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed on US social media company X that Russian forces targeted civilian sites, including buses in Odesa, apartment buildings in Zaporizhzhia, and a hospital in the Kharkiv region. Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine's need for more air defense and protection, criticizing Russian authorities for their refusal to end the war. The claims by both sides remain unverified due to the ongoing conflict.
