Russian Ambassador to Norway Threatens Country with Fishing Penalties: Report

Oslo: The Russian ambassador to Norway is threatening the country with fishing penalties following sanctions against Russia's fishing companies, broadcaster NRK reported Friday. The diplomatic tension underscores the ongoing strain in relations as both countries navigate the repercussions of sanctions and retaliations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Russian Embassy confirmed to NRK a statement by the ambassador signaling further retaliatory measures against Norway in the fisheries sector. This development comes as a response to the recent sanctions imposed by Norway on Russian fishing enterprises, a move that has evidently irked Moscow and led to the current diplomatic friction.

Norwegian Fisheries and Oceans Minister Marianne Sivertsen Naess commented on the situation, noting that Russia's reaction was anticipated following the listing of vessels. She emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue, despite the challenges, as a crucial step toward finding viable solutions. Naess asserted her commitment to continuing discussions with Russian counterparts, even as the process becomes increasingly demanding.
