Moscow: A Russian court on Tuesday levied a fine of over 8 billion rubles (approximately $78 million) on Google for failing to comply with previous penalties imposed on the US-based tech giant.

According to Anadolu Agency, a magistrate from Moscow's Nagorny District determined that Google was guilty of evading the enforcement of an administrative penalty. This was announced in a statement by the press service of the courts in the Russian capital via Telegram. The statement specified that the company was fined just over 8 billion Russian rubles due to this violation.

However, the details of the administrative penalty that Google was accused of evading were not disclosed in the statement. This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of foreign tech companies operating in Russia. In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized Google and YouTube for allegedly using their platforms to further the political agendas of their home governments.
