Moscow: An agreement with the US on a peace deal in Ukraine is 'not easy,' the Russian foreign minister stated, as Moscow and Washington persist in their efforts to find a resolution to the ongoing war, which has lasted over three years.

According to Anadolu Agency, Sergey Lavrov expressed in an interview with the local Kommersant newspaper that the key components of the settlement are challenging to agree upon and are currently under discussion. This was in response to a question about whether Russia and the US have formulated the primary parameters of a potential comprehensive deal on Ukraine.

Lavrov recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin had outlined Moscow's expectations for a potential deal back in June of the previous year, emphasizing that this position is not a request but firmly based on the wording of the United Nations Charter, numerous conventions, and the results of referendums, particularly regarding the Ukrainian territories annexed by Moscow in 2022.

In discussing the peace talks with Washington, Lavrov mentioned that 'common sense' guides the approach of the administration of US President Donald Trump. He further emphasized the obligation of Russia and the US, as 'responsible international players,' to ensure that differing interests do not escalate into confrontation.

Lavrov also highlighted that when interests align, both nations have a duty to seize the opportunity to transform this alignment into mutually beneficial projects. He noted that Moscow is aware of what constitutes a mutually advantageous deal and what could potentially lead Russia into 'another trap.'
