Kyiv: Explosions rang out in Kyiv following warnings from US and Ukrainian officials that Russia might be preparing a missile strike. The attack resulted in at least one person dead and 24 injured, as reported by the Kyiv Independent.
According to Anadolu Agency, at least 13 people have been hospitalized, with three individuals in severe condition. The alert was issued after a directive from Russian President Vladimir Putin for retaliation against a deadly Ukrainian attack.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that at least one person was killed and over 20 were injured overnight. Strikes impacted various parts of the capital, including residential areas, a student dormitory, a car service center, and a shopping mall. "The number of injured in Kyiv has risen to 24, including a 15-year-old boy," Klitschko stated on Telegram, noting that three were in serious condition.
Ukraine's Air Force had issued a warning late Saturday regarding the possible launch of a medium-range ballistic missile, known as Oreshnik. Kyiv's military administrator, Tymur Tkachenko, described the situation as a 'massive ballistic attack' and urged residents to remain in shelters.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted that intelligence from Ukrainian, US, and European sources suggested that Russia might be preparing to use Oreshnik missiles. Zelenskyy indicated that the information was being verified and called for international pressure on Moscow to prevent further escalation. Russian authorities have yet to provide a comment.
