Ankara: Saudi air defenses on Monday intercepted ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group from Yemen, the Saudi-led coalition supporting the internationally recognized Yemeni government said. The missiles targeted Saudi Arabia's southern region, as announced by coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki on the US social media platform X.
According to Anadolu Agency, the attack came just hours after Yemen's Defense Ministry reported that its forces had struck the Sanaa airport runway. This action was reportedly in response to the Houthis preventing Yemeni flights from landing while allowing an Iranian plane to land, which was described as a violation of Yemeni territory.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree has vowed that the strike 'will not pass without retaliation and punishment.' He accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out the strike on Sanaa airport and declared that it marked the end of the de-escalation and ceasefire agreement with the Yemeni government. As of now, there has been no comment from Saudi authorities regarding the Houthi accusation.
