Saudi Arabia Activates Emergency Alerts in Three Cities Amid Houthi Hostilities

Baku:Riyadh Saudi Arabia briefly activated emergency alerts in the southwestern cities of Abha and Khamis Mushait and in Taif, located in the west of the country, before announcing that the danger in these areas had been resolved.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the warnings were issued through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, as stated by the Saudi Civil Defense. The agency later confirmed that the threat had passed in Abha, Khamis Mushait, and Taif, and advised residents to adhere to Civil Defense instructions and refrain from gathering or filming.

The statements did not detail the nature of the threat or mention any casualties or damage. The warnings were issued amidst escalating hostilities between the Houthi group and the Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen's internationally recognized government.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition against the Houthis since March 2015 after the group took control of Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and other areas in 2014.
