Riyadh: Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that five 'hostile' drones were intercepted and destroyed near Prince Sultan Air Base. The incident has raised concerns about regional security amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Defense Ministry spokesman Turki Al-Maliki did not provide details regarding potential injuries or damage resulting from the interception. However, the Saudi Energy Ministry reported that debris from two intercepted drones caused limited damage at the Ras Tanura oil refinery on the country's eastern coast.

The interception incident followed a large-scale attack by the US and Israel on Iran, which occurred on Saturday. This attack resulted in the deaths of several top Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and regional countries housing US assets, contributing to heightened tensions in the area.
