Riyadh:Saudi Arabia's Cabinet has issued a stern warning to the Houthi group, stating that they will face consequences for their continued attacks on the kingdom's airports and the sacred cities of Mecca and Medina. The Cabinet emphasized that any threat to Saudi Arabia's security or freedom of maritime navigation would not be tolerated.
According to Anadolu Agency, the official Saudi Press Agency reported that the Cabinet condemned the ongoing attacks by the Houthis on civilians visiting the Two Holy Mosques in Mecca and Medina, as well as on civilian and economic facilities. The Cabinet declared that the group would "face the consequences of its crimes and repeated heinous attacks."
The Cabinet also highlighted its refusal to allow threats to its security or maritime navigation freedom in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. It expressed gratitude towards countries and international organizations that have denounced the Houthi attacks.
Additionally, the Cabinet praised the military operations conducted by the coalition supporting Yemen's legitimate government. The operations aim to neutralize the threat posed by the Houthi militia, safeguard international peace and security, and protect global trade and international supply chains.
The Cabinet welcomed the restoration of oil flows through the East-West pipeline, noting that the swift recovery showcases the resilience of Saudi Arabia's energy system and its capability to handle emergencies and ensure continued international market supplies.
Saudi Arabia has recently experienced attacks on airports and civilian facilities, amidst escalating military tensions with the Houthis. This escalation followed a period of relative calm after a UN-brokered truce took effect in April 2022. The conflict in Yemen began when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and other provinces in September 2014, leading to the Saudi-led coalition's intervention in March 2015 in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government.
