Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Support for Peaceful Resolution in US-Iran Conflict

Riyadh: A high-level Saudi official has refuted recent US media claims suggesting that Saudi Arabia is advocating for a military strike against Iran by the United States. The official emphasized that Riyadh remains committed to facilitating a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Saudi official, speaking to the Saudi-owned Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, dismissed reports indicating a shift in the kingdom's stance towards endorsing military action against Tehran as 'untrue.' The official reiterated Saudi Arabia's support for resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomatic avenues, underscoring the kingdom's opposition to using its airspace or territory for any military endeavors against Iran.

The US media outlet Axios had earlier reported that Riyadh was pressing Washington to strike Iran, warning that inaction could embolden the Iranian regime. However, Saudi Arabia's position remains firmly rooted in diplomatic engagement.

In a recent development, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman communicated with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, affirming Saudi Arabia's dedication to resolving regional disputes through dialogue to ensure stability. The communication highlights Riyadh's ongoing commitment to peaceful solutions.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced via social media that a significant US naval presence was en route to Iran, urging Tehran to engage in negotiations. This announcement has sparked speculation about potential military action, eliciting strong reactions from Iranian officials and prompting diplomatic maneuvers across the region.

The situation follows last June's conflict, where Israel, backed by the US, initiated a 12-day war against Iran, leading to retaliatory measures from Tehran before a ceasefire was declared by Washington.
