Riyadh: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman engaged in discussions with Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council, focusing on the pursuit of security and stability in Sudan, a nation currently grappling with conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, the Saudi state news agency SPA reported that the dialogue centered on the ongoing developments in Sudan and initiatives aimed at establishing peace and security. However, further specifics on the discussions were not disclosed.

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan arrived in Riyadh on Monday, amidst ongoing clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The visit aimed to facilitate talks with Saudi officials regarding the situation.

Sudanese Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Muawiya Osman remarked on al-Burhan's visit, describing it as a successful and friendly engagement with Saudi Arabia. Discussions with Prince Mohammed bin Salman encompassed the trajectory of bilateral relations and strategies to enhance them through a sustainable strategic partnership, as reported by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA).

Osman emphasized that the advancement of relations would be facilitated by the Strategic Cooperation Council, overseen by the leaderships of both nations. Additionally, al-Burhan conveyed Sudan's gratitude for the Crown Prince's efforts in promoting peace and stability in Sudan.

Al-Burhan also acknowledged the Crown Prince's vision for regional peace and stability, economic cooperation, and strategic partnerships. Furthermore, he expressed appreciation for US President Donald Trump's commitment to pursuing peace in Sudan, in collaboration with Saudi efforts.

Saudi Arabia is part of the international Quad mechanism, alongside the US, Egypt, and the UAE. This coalition proposed a plan in September to establish a three-month humanitarian truce in Sudan, serving as a prelude to a permanent ceasefire and a nine-month transition towards an independent civilian government.

The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, continues to inflict a heavy toll, resulting in thousands of casualties and displacing millions.
