Saudi-Led Coalition Intercepts Houthi Ballistic Missile Aimed at Western Saudi Arabia

Taif:Riyadh The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced it successfully intercepted and destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile targeting the western Saudi city of Taif early Wednesday. This prompted authorities to issue emergency alerts in the cities of Jeddah and Yanbu.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Saudi Civil Defense later declared an all-clear in both Jeddah and Yanbu, although it did not specify what threat had initially triggered the warnings.

In a statement, the coalition did not provide details regarding any casualties or damage as a result of the missile interception. This incident comes shortly after debris from two Houthi ballistic missiles intercepted by air defenses in Riyadh caused damage. The fragments affected a building, a construction project, and a vehicle, but no casualties were reported.

Earlier on Tuesday, the coalition reported intercepting four drones and three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis toward Saudi Arabia. These interceptions occur amidst increasing hostilities between the Houthi group and the Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen's internationally recognized government.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition against the Houthis, following the group's seizure of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and other territories in 2014.
