Saudi-Led Coalition Intercepts Houthi Drones and Missiles Over Saudi Arabia

Yanbu:Riyadh The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced on Friday that it successfully shot down three drones over Saudi Arabia's southern and Riyadh regions. This action comes amidst ongoing attacks by Houthi forces on the kingdom.

According to Anadolu Agency, coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki stated on the US social media platform X that two cruise missiles were also intercepted and destroyed over the Red Sea.

Additionally, the coalition managed to shoot down a ballistic missile targeting the Saudi port city of Yanbu in recent hours, al-Maliki reported.

These incidents are part of a broader pattern of Houthi attacks targeting Saudi airports and energy facilities. Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government since 2015, in opposition to the Houthi forces that have controlled Sanaa and other provinces since 2014.

The latest escalation in hostilities began in July, following a period of relative calm after a UN-brokered truce initiated in April 2022.
