Ankara: Sea transport accounted for 56.2% of Turkish exports in the first five months of the year, according to data compiled by Anadolu from the country's statistical bureau, TurkStat.

According to Anadolu Agency, Turkish exports in January-May totaled $110.9 billion, marking a 3.4% increase compared to the same period last year. Of that total, seaborne exports amounted to $62.2 billion, a rise from $60.8 billion the previous year.

Road transport exports contributed $35.3 billion during the same timeframe, representing 32% of Turkey's total exports. Meanwhile, air transport export revenue saw a 19% increase year-on-year, reaching $11.7 billion.

Rail transport exports were recorded at $757.6 million for the January-May period, with exports through other modes of transport totaling $791.4 million.

On the imports front, sea transport also held the largest share of Turkey's import activity, with imports valued at $80.9 billion out of a total of $152.2 billion in January-May. Road transport followed with $27.9 billion, air transport with $22.3 billion, and rail transport with $1.4 billion. Imports via other modes of transport amounted to $19.4 billion.
