Sergen Yalcin Appointed Head Coach of Turkish National Football Team

Accra:The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced that Sergen Yalcin has been appointed as the head coach of Turkey's National Football Team.

According to Anadolu Agency, the federation's executive committee approved the 53-year-old's appointment, and Yalcin, along with his staff, will sign a four-year contract.

Yalcin began his professional playing career at Istanbul's Besiktas and has managed several Turkish clubs, including Gaziantepspor, Sivasspor, Kayserispor, Konyaspor, Alanyaspor, Yeni Malatyaspor, and Antalyaspor. He made history by leading Besiktas to both the Turkish Super Lig and Turkish Cup titles in the 2020-21 season, becoming the first person in the club's history to win the league title as both a player and coach.

During his playing career, he represented all four of Turkey's major clubs—Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Trabzonspor—a feat unmatched by any other player. Yalcin also earned 37 international caps, scoring five goals for Turkey, and played in the 1996 and 2000 UEFA European Championships.

This appointment marks Yalcin's first tenure as head coach of Turkey's senior national team.
