Seville:Sevilla FC has filed a formal complaint with LaLiga, citing concerns over what it describes as 'unequal and inadequate' television coverage of key incidents during their 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid. The Spanish club expressed dissatisfaction with the audiovisual production of the match held on October 18 at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Sevilla raised issues regarding comments made by LaLiga's head of production and editorial, Sergio Carranza Lezcano, on the Spanish radio program El Partidazo de COPE. Moreover, Sevilla's coach, Luis Garcia Plaza, criticized an incident involving Real Madrid player Arda Guler and Sevilla's Gerard "Peque" Fernandez at a time when the game was tied 0-0. Guler was not penalized for an elbow to Peque but later scored the first goal in the 30th minute.
Sevilla’s complaint, signed by club president Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco, questioned the broadcast and replay of four specific incidents. These include an alleged foul by Cucurella on Peque, which the club believes could have warranted a penalty but was not adequately replayed by broadcasters. The club also took issue with the coverage of Guler's alleged elbow incident, claiming it was only shown from distant angles. Additionally, Sevilla criticized the lack of television analysis regarding an alleged foul by Konate on Robbie Ure preceding Real Madrid's second goal, contrasting this with the extensive replays of Real Madrid’s penalty following a foul on Kylian Mbappe.
Sevilla has demanded an investigation into the coverage, calling for LaLiga to release the protocols governing match broadcasts and clarify editorial discretion. The club alleges that three disputed incidents were omitted from official match highlights, although footage was later shown by Movistar Plus+ and DAZN. Furthermore, Sevilla has requested documentation on the broadcast's production plan, camera positions, and personnel involved, as well as the release of complete footage of the incidents in question.
The club is seeking access to LaLiga's audiovisual production guidelines and urges corrective measures to ensure fair treatment for all teams. Sevilla also expressed disagreement with the criteria presented by the Technical Committee of Referees during a meeting on Tuesday, noting that despite a respectful exchange, there remains a clear divergence in views over the controversial decisions.
