Singapore: Singapore announced the interception of rhinoceros horns valued at over $800,000 from a "suspicious shipment" destined for Vientiane, Laos. This operation marks the country's largest seizure of rhinoceros horns to date.

According to Anadolu Agency, on November 8, authorities discovered and confiscated 20 pieces of rhinoceros horns weighing 35.7 kilograms (78.7 pounds) after SATS Group, an air cargo handler at Singapore Changi Airport, raised an alert. The National Parks Board released a statement via Facebook regarding this significant bust.

The recent seizure surpasses the previous record of 34.7 kilograms (76.5 pounds) set in 2022. In addition to the rhinoceros horns, approximately 150 kilograms (330 pounds) of other unidentified animal parts were also seized, with investigations ongoing to determine their species.

The National Parks Board emphasized Singapore's strict approach against the illegal trade of endangered wildlife species and their derivatives. Under Singaporean law, transporting animals protected under the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) without valid permits can result in fines of up to S$200,000 ($153,680) per specimen or the market value of the specimens, along with potential imprisonment of up to eight years.
