Slovakia’s Premier Backs Orban Ahead of Hungarian Elections

Bratislava: The Slovak prime minister has expressed support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Saturday ahead of the Hungarian parliamentary elections. ‘I wish Viktor Orban that all his political goals are fulfilled in the parliamentary elections,’ Robert Fico stressed on US social media company X, saying he would follow the vote from Vietnam during an official visit.

According to Anadolu Agency, Fico said Slovakia and Hungary ‘invest a great deal of energy’ into fostering ‘high-quality friendly relations’ and ensuring what he described as an ‘above-standard position’ for national minorities. He also described Orban as a strong advocate for sovereignty and national interests, saying he had ‘never encountered’ such a figure during his political career.

Fico said the cooperation between the two countries helps maintain ‘high-quality friendly relations.’ Hungary is set to hold parliamentary elections on Sunday. A compilation of polling published by the Politico news website shows Orban’s Fidesz party trailing the opposition Tisza Party by 11 points.
