Ankara: Three people were killed Saturday when a small plane crashed during its descent into an airport in Tennessee, US, officials said. A Mooney M20TN aircraft departed from Alabama and crashed south of the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport in Sparta around 11:50 a.m. local time (1650GMT).
According to Anadolu Agency, all three passengers on board the four-seater plane were killed. Airport Director Dean Selby stated that the Memphis Air Traffic Control Center alerted the airport after losing contact with the aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the crash and announced that it, along with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), will be investigating the incident. The NTSB will lead the probe to determine the cause of the crash.
As of now, the identities of the victims have not been released.
