Software Bug Causes Formation-Lap Issues at Bahrain GP in Malaysia

Ankara:Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, revealed that a software bug was the reason several cars lost power during the formation laps at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, which led to a delay in the race start.

According to Anadolu Agency, the investigation showed that cars running at low engine speeds experienced significant power losses at certain sections of the Sepang circuit due to a 250-kilowatt power reduction applied under wet-weather settings.

The FIA announced that the temporary software fix implemented at Sepang will be utilized again at the Singapore Grand Prix if similar weather conditions are forecasted. A further update to the wet-weather software is expected to be introduced at the US Grand Prix on October 25.

The Bahrain GP race was delayed when several cars encountered power problems during two formation laps, leading officials to halt the start procedure. The FIA's technical team swiftly identified the cause within five minutes of the suspension and released revised software configurations.

These changes enabled teams to complete the necessary installations before the race continued. The FIA expressed gratitude to the teams, power unit manufacturers, and its technical staff for their collaborative efforts in resolving the issue, ensuring the race proceeded safely.
