Rabat: Abdul Salam Haniyeh, the son of the assassinated Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh, has revealed that over 75 members of his immediate family and 250 members of the Al-Hajj clan have been killed in the ongoing conflict in Gaza. In an interview with Anadolu marking the second anniversary of his father's assassination, Abdul Salam emphasized Trkiye's role as a political ally to Palestine under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressing optimism that mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and Trkiye would successfully enforce the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

According to Anadolu Agency, Abdul Salam stood solemnly before a family portrait, pointing out relatives lost in the war, including Ismail Haniyeh's three sons-Mohammed, Hazem, and Amir-and several grandchildren who perished in an Israeli strike on April 10, 2024, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr. He recounted his father's multifaceted role as a teacher, mentor, and friend, expressing the family's deep sense of loss. Abdul Salam shared his father's enduring advice to remain connected with the community and uphold values of humility, family ties, and community service.

Abdul Salam noted that his father's influence remains pervasive in Palestinian public life, underscoring the importance of remembering leaders like Ismail Haniyeh to continue the Palestinian struggle. He highlighted Trkiye's consistent political and humanitarian support, praising President Erdogan's efforts to end the occupation and establish a Palestinian state in line with international law and UN resolutions.

He also called for international solidarity to translate into political action, urging European countries and the international community to work towards ending the conflict and the Israeli occupation. He expressed hope for the mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and Trkiye to fully implement the ceasefire and restore normalcy to Gaza.

Addressing the citizens of Gaza, Abdul Salam emphasized their shared connection and the rights of Gaza's children to live in peace, appealing to the world to end the violence. Despite the ceasefire effective from October 10, 2025, reports of continued violations by Israel highlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis, with the overall death toll since October 2023 reaching 73,349, as reported by Palestinian authorities.
