Seoul: South Korea has signed a letter of intent with six UN agencies to establish an AI hub in the country, the prime minister's office announced on Wednesday. The initiative aims to foster collaboration between UN bodies and South Korea's public and private sectors to develop AI-based solutions for global challenges.

According to Anadolu Agency, the signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, who has been on a diplomatic tour of the US and Switzerland to advocate for the country's proposal to host the AI hub. The meetings included discussions with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other key agency leaders in New York.

In Geneva, Kim met with International Labor Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert Houngbo, International Organization for Migration (IOM) Director-General Amy Pope, and World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. During these meetings, Kim outlined Seoul's plan to assist developing countries and vulnerable groups through global cooperation in AI.

The three agency chiefs expressed their support for South Korea's initiative and agreed to maintain communication regarding the project's specifics. Prime Minister Kim is expected to provide further details about the project and the outcomes of his trip next Tuesday upon his return home.
