Busan:Authorities in South Korea have successfully guided a shark out of a canal in the southeastern port city of Busan. The shark had been trapped in the canal for a month, and this marked the third attempt by officials to lead it back to open waters.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the shark, named Bukang-i, was initially spotted in the canal on September 18. The presence of the shark attracted significant public interest, with over 1.6 million visitors recorded by Sunday, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
A coordinated effort involving municipal and Coast Guard officials was employed to guide the shark out. They used a net attached to a pontoon to maneuver Bukang-i towards Marina Bridge, successfully steering it to waters outside the canal near a pier.
While the sighting indicated that Bukang-i had left the canal for now, the waters near the pier are not considered open sea. Authorities remain hopeful that the shark will eventually find its way into open waters. The third attempt to guide the shark was prompted by concerns that falling water temperatures could threaten its survival.
