Seoul: A prominent member of the globally acclaimed South Korean pop band BTS, known as J-Hope, has donated more than $68,000 to support the families affected by a recent plane crash in South Korea. The donation comes in the wake of a tragic incident involving a Jeju Air flight, which resulted in numerous casualties.
According to Anadolu Agency, J-Hope, a 30-year-old rapper and singer-songwriter, contributed 100 million won (approximately $68,237) to aid the bereaved families following the crash of a Boeing 737-800. The aircraft, operated by Jeju Air, was on its route from Bangkok when it crashed at Muan International Airport, sliding into a wall and bursting into flames. The accident claimed the lives of all but two crew members on board.
The news agency reported J-Hope's statement, "Upon hearing the news of the accident, I decided to donate in hopes of providing some help to the grieving families." This gesture is consistent with J-Hope's philanthropic efforts, as he is a member of the 'Hope Bridge Honors Club,' a group of key donors who contributed to flood relief efforts in the previous year.
In conjunction with J-Hope's donation, authorities have intensified their investigation into the incident. Police conducted raids on several locations, including the airport and Jeju Air's headquarters, in a search and seizure operation. The Jeju Air CEO, Kim E-Bae, has been placed on a travel ban, and the airport is set to remain closed until January 7.
