Seoul: South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has resumed playing golf after several years, aiming to build a rapport with US President-elect Donald Trump, who is known for his passion for the sport. According to Anadolu Agency, Yoon has started practicing golf following advice to prepare for future interactions with Trump. This marks the first time since 2016 that Yoon has engaged in the sport, as confirmed by South Korea's presidential office. Previously, Yoon was an avid golfer during his tenure as a prosecutor. Yoon explained that his transition to the central investigative unit at the Supreme Prosecutors Office in 2010 left him with little time for golf. The approach to using golf as a diplomatic tool is not unprecedented; Japan's former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe successfully established a friendly relationship with Trump during his first presidency by engaging in golf, even presenting Trump with gold-plated golf clubs in 2016. Abe, who was tragically assassinated in July 2022, famously fell into a bunk er during a round of golf with Trump in Japan in November 2017.
